OUR TEAM

ABOUT DR. XIAOYING AMBER WU, PH.D.

Dr. Xiaoying Amber Wu is a licensed clinical psychologist practicing in Maryland, currently completing her postdoctoral specialization in neuropsychology. In working with you, Dr. Wu strives to create a collaborative, compassionate, and non-judgemental space for you to access the vulnerable parts of yourself.  She thinks of her practice as a magnifying glass, one that zooms in on feelings and beliefs that are daunting to examine but painfully hold us captive every day. Dr. Wu believes in the power of relationships – not only the ones we have with others, but also the one with ourselves. In addition to examining your pains in relational terms across time, she will help you explore your needs and values, as well as the realistic ways to fulfil and embody them.

Zooming out of your personal orbit, Dr. Wu also welcomes discussions of the many ways in which the various systems of oppression may have constrained and reduced your being. To unpack and unlearn the implicit conditioning we have all been subjected to living in our society, she seeks to help you (re)gain a sense of authenticity and empowerment.

Dr. Wu identifies as a bicultural first-generation Chinese American cisgender woman.  She has worked with individuals with depression, anxiety, complex PTSD, and substance use. She particularly enjoys working with clients who are navigating self-criticism, shame, isolation, stigma, cultural and identity concerns, as well as generational trauma and family conflict. She is LGBTQIA+ affirming. With specialized training in neuropsychological assessment, Dr. Wu also applies her knowledge of brain-behavior relationship in helping caregivers of dementia weather the unique challenges they face.
