ABOUT DR. ARABA KUOFIE, PH.D.

Dr. Araba Kuofie is a licensed clinical psychologist based in the Chicago area and originally from West Africa. Her diverse cultural experiences have undoubtedly influenced her perspective and approach to therapy.

Her personal experiences as an immigrant, combined with her extensive experiences as a practicing psychologist have shaped her holistic view of mental health. Dr. Kuofie’s approach to care is centered on her clients and grounded in an understanding of how each client’s biological, psychological, and social context influences their distress and ability to engage in and benefit from therapy. With this information, Dr. Kuofie teaches cutting-edge evidence-based skills and tools that are uniquely tailored to her clients’ individual needs, with the goal of improving overall mood and mental health.

Dr. Kuofie views her clients as experts in their own lived experiences and collaborates with them to develop an individualized and culturally responsive treatment that addresses the unique barriers and challenges that are present. She is passionate about multicultural practice and carefully attends to diverse worldviews and sociocultural factors in therapy. Above all, Dr. Kuofie strives to create a safe and non-judgmental space, which allows her clients to cultivate authenticity, introspection, skill building, and problem-solving as they navigate various stressors and challenges in their lives. She accomplishes this by providing warmth, empathy, patience, flexibility, and unconditional positive regard for all of her clients.

Dr. Kuofie believes that success in therapy is defined by significant improvement in how her client’s feel in their moods, greater resiliency and increased confidence managing ongoing or new stressors, improved relationships with friends, family, and/or significant others, and consistent use of skills learned in therapy long after treatment has been completed.

Dr. Kuofie is a staunch advocate of self-compassion and consistent self-care. She purposefully dedicates time to engage in enjoyable and personally fulfilling activities such as painting, home décor, aerial yoga, exercising, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
