ABOUT DR. Alexa Connors, PSY.D.

Dr. Alexa Connors is a licensed Clinical Psychologist with an emphasis on treating teens & adults with evidence-based treatment to address a variety of needs including depression, anxiety, trauma, relationships, & life transitions. 

Dr. Connors strives to integrate authenticity, warmth, cultural humility and a strengths-based approach to her clients’ values and individual treatment goals. Dr. Connors’ primary goal in treatment is to create a space where clients feel safe to express themselves while also being challenged to grow and learn new skills. Dr. Connors’ clinical work often utilizes support systems & strategies beyond therapeutic interventions to incorporate holistic recommendations beyond individual therapy.

Dr. Connors collaborates with clients to incorporate their personal views with her areas of expertise to address their goals. This may include humor, music, and other creative methods in treatment. Dr. Connors is passionate about helping teens and adults learn new skills and perspectives to navigate life’s challenges. Her belief is that no matter the diagnosis or symptoms, all people can create a life worth living and accomplish their goals with adequate support and care!

Outside of her role as a clinical psychologist, Dr. Connors loves to spend time with her Welsh corgi Duncan, listening to music, traveling, and engaging in movement such as yoga and spin classes. Dr. Connors enjoys balancing ongoing learning through reading, journaling & podcasts with having fun through quality time with loved ones, movies & concerts.

BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

Dr. Alexa Connors earned her doctorate in Psychology (PsyD) from the American Psychological Association (APA) accredited University of La Verne. She completed her advanced clinical training at several hospitals including UCLA and Children’s Hospital Orange County (CHOC) as a fellow in their inpatient unit, intensive outpatient program, and emergency mental health services departments.. Dr. Connors completed an APA accredited internship at UC Davis Medical Center with a focus on childhood maltreatment & trauma-focused CBT, as well as treating psychosis and thought disorders. Additionally, she received clinical training at community mental health agencies, academic medical centers, state hospitals, and juvenile justice settings. 

Dr. Connors is currently a professor at The University of La Verne, teaching coursework on violence and abuse in family systems including child abuse and intimate partner violence reporting, assessment and treatment in the doctoral and masters level programs.
