ABOUT Dr. Ijeoma Osigwe, PH.D.

Dr. Ijeoma Osigwe is a licensed psychologist based in Columbus, OH who specializes in working with children, adolescents, and their families as well as with young adults experiencing life transitions and occupational-related stress. Evidence-based practice is at the core of her therapeutic work, and her treatment approach considers the close interactions between a child/adolescent/young adult and their closest environments and their impact on behavioral and emotional functioning.

Dr. Osigwe developed a passion for child and adolescent psychology while in college, particularly after learning about the power of early and preventative interventions in improving psychological outcomes for children. This interest informed her post-baccalaureate work as a Parent Educator, which then fueled her graduate interests in the home environment, child behavioral outcomes, and parenting interventions. These experiences have fortified her present day commitment to working not only with children, but also with with their parents/caregivers in all aspects of treatment. With young adults, Dr. Osigwe carefully considers the influence of the home/family on one’s experiences, beliefs, and attitudes and how these interact in their everyday environments.

BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

My approach is deeply rooted in evidence-based interventions, primarily cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral parent training, and exposure therapy. In order to foster meaningful change for patients/families, I often take an integrative approach to treatment, which may involve various combinations of these interventions and/or aspects of other evidence-based therapies, like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I am committed to supporting children/adolescents and their families and adults in overcoming a range of challenges, including anxiety disorders, ADHD, disruptive behavior disorders, school problems, (mild) depression, and (mild) OCD, in a manner that feels approachable for all involved.

From the first session, I invite active participation from all participating members, fostering a sense of collaboration. Every therapy session is thoughtfully structured, so that patients/families are consistently working towards their individualized goals with concrete, actionable steps. However, my sessions also allow room for flexibility, in a manner that is patient/family-centered and in recognition of the need to modify treatment based on patient/family characteristics. Use of evidence-based progress monitoring measures is common in my work, though I also utilize patient/family report as meaningful measures of progress.

Dr. Osigwe earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Temple University, and she completed her predoctoral internship at Texas Children’s Hospital. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. These experiences have provided her vast opportunities to work with diverse populations of children, adolescents, families, and adults with a broad range of presenting concerns.
