ABOUT DR. MELISSA MERCEDES, PH.D.
Dr. Melissa Mercedes, Ph.D., is a dedicated and licensed clinical psychologist specializing in perinatal mental health and the use of evidence-based therapies to address trauma, depression, and anxiety in adults and adolescents. With extensive experience treating trauma, PTSD, and mood and anxiety disorders, Dr. Mercedes is committed to fostering healing and resilience in her clients.
Dr. Mercedes’ therapy process is guided by an integrative approach that encourages exploring thoughts and feelings and allows for a personalized treatment plan incorporating evidence-based therapeutic modalities. The process starts by inquiring about the client’s background, concerns, and therapy goals, along with using evidence-based questionnaires to gain insight into symptoms and their severity. This information is then used collaboratively with the client to identify specific, measurable, and achievable therapy goals. This integrative approach provides the flexibility to tailor treatment plans to the client’s needs, drawing from various theories and techniques to address specific symptoms.
Dr. Mercedes believes that successful therapy hinges on clients’ motivation and commitment to the therapeutic process. She emphasizes that integrating evidence-based practices with a strong therapeutic alliance between the client and therapist enhances the likelihood of treatment success. Successful outcomes include improved overall well-being and life functioning, as well as the client’s ability to independently use the skills developed during therapy to recognize and manage potential life stressors while pursuing value-based goals.
A certified yoga instructor with over 25 years of personal practice, Dr. Mercedes integrates yoga and meditation into her therapeutic approach, advocating for the profound healing power of these practices. Her holistic methods emphasize the connection between physical and emotional well-being, empowering clients to achieve comprehensive health.
