ABOUT DR. NICK BROWN, PH.D.
Dr. Brown is a clinical psychologist with years of experience providing a variety of evidence-based treatments. He believes a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation of a successful course of treatment. He strives to create a non-judgmental atmosphere, wherein clients feel comfortable being authentic and opening up about their struggles in various domains of life. He uses a thorough assessment at the outset of treatment to form an understanding of how client symptoms, life experiences, and cultural and identity factors shape their view of the world, and he uses this information to assist in collaboratively creating a treatment plan that is aligned with the client’s goals and personal needs. Treatment looks different depending on the client, but typically will involve procedures such as processing stressors or painful life events, learning to think in more helpful ways, creating new patterns of behavior, obtaining new skills for regulating intense emotions, and receiving interpersonal feedback. Throughout the process, Dr. Brown meets his clients with empathy and support, and he seeks feedback informally and via objective self-report measures to determine whether any adjustments need to be made to the treatment approach.
Dr. Brown deeply enjoys the process of building trusting relationships that lead to productive outcomes for his clients. He aims to approach his work with humility and kindness, and he views seeking treatment as a courageous act of self-care. He has extensive experience in treating clients of varying ethnic and racial backgrounds, as well as socioeconomic statuses, and he is passionate about providing effective and culturally affirming care to people from underserved communities.
In his personal life, Dr. Brown enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children. His hobbies include following the NBA, exercising, meditation, hiking, and TV.
