About Dr. Alexandra (Alex) Gilbert, Ph.D.
Dr. Alexandra (Alex) Gilbert is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist practicing in Tampa, Florida. She specializes in women’s health and reproductive mental health across the lifespan, with a particular passion for supporting pregnant/postpartum individuals, as well as those coping with various women’s health conditions (e.g., breast cancer, premenstrual concerns and PCOS, perimenopause/menopause, etc.). She also has experience in helping clients navigate pregnancy loss/grief and fertility-related challenges. More broadly, Dr. Gilbert has extensive experience treating anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, insomnia, adjusting to chronic illness and coping with chronic pain. Dr. Gilbert primarily uses evidence-based, transdiagnostic treatments that have been well researched to treat a range of mental health diagnoses and symptoms.
Dr. Gilbert is committed to providing collaborative, culturally responsive and affirming care to clients from diverse backgrounds and age groups. Her therapeutic approach is client-centered and focuses on gently reducing avoidance of difficult emotions while helping clients gradually approach feared situations with courage, curiosity, and self-compassion. She encourages clients to engage with strong emotions in ways that foster new learning, self-discovery, and reduced suffering, with the ultimate goal of living a more meaningful and values-consistent life. Dr. Gilbert also recognizes the impact of stigma, discrimination, marginalization, and minority-based stress on mental health and strives to create an inclusive, nonjudgmental therapeutic space that acknowledges the role of systemic and contextual factors in overall well-being.
Outside of her clinical work, Dr. Gilbert is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) who enjoys integrating mindfulness and present-focused awareness with movement. One of her favorite activities has been teaching kids yoga at a local studio in her community. In her free time, she enjoys spending time at the beach, reading, and playing with her adorable long-haired dachshund, who can be a bit persnickety at times!
