Finding an in-network therapist in California can take weeks of calls. Psychological Healing is in-network with Optum and UnitedHealthcare (UHC), and our California psychologists see members by secure video across the state, so your options aren’t limited to whoever happens to practice near you.
Read on for what we treat in California, how we match you with a clinician, and how we check your Optum or UnitedHealthcare benefits.
Telehealth from Redding to Chula Vista
California is large, and a good specialist can be a long drive away. Video sessions remove that barrier for UHC and Optum members in Los Angeles, the Inland Empire, the Central Coast, the Sacramento Valley, and rural counties alike. You’ll need to be in California during each session, in a private space with a reliable connection. We also have an office in Newport Beach and offices throughout the US; ask whether in-person sessions fit your plan and clinician.
Conditions we treat in California
California members come to us for anxiety, panic, depression, trauma, couples and relationship concerns, emotion regulation, identity development, and pregnancy-related mental health. Treatment draws on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and related approaches with strong research support.
Our California clinicians
Psychological Healing has 40 clinicians, offering in-person sessions in 20 states and video sessions in 44 states. Our California clinicians who are active with Optum and UnitedHealthcare see members by secure video across the state. When you reach out, our admin team matches you with a clinician whose license, focus, and schedule fit what you need. You can read about everyone on our team.
Before your first session: checking coverage
You can look up your benefits in your UnitedHealthcare or Optum member account, but you don’t have to. We do the verification for you. We’ll confirm that outpatient mental health care is covered, that telehealth from California is included, and whether a referral is required. Because we’re in-network, we bill Optum or UHC directly. What you owe depends on your plan and your deductible, and we’ll explain that before you start. We do not accept Medicare or Medicare Advantage plans.
Making an appointment
Send us a message through our appointment request form with your location in California, your insurance, and what you’d like to work on. Our admin team replies with next steps, verifies your benefits, and offers appointment options with a clinician who fits.
Frequently asked questions
Do you offer couples therapy for UHC members in California?
Couples therapy is available with select clinicians. Whether your plan covers it depends on the plan, so we check first.
My card says UnitedHealthcare. Do I contact Optum or UHC?
You don’t need to contact either first. Send us your member identification (ID) number and we’ll confirm which part of your plan manages mental health benefits.
I live in Northern California. Can I still see a Los Angeles-based clinician?
Yes. Licensure is statewide, so any of our California clinicians can see you by video wherever you are in California.
