Read on for what we treat in New York, how we match you with a clinician, and how we check your Optum or UnitedHealthcare benefits.

Secure video from the five boroughs to Western New York

Members meet from Harlem, Astoria, Park Slope, Yonkers, White Plains, Poughkeepsie, Albany, Ithaca, Binghamton, Utica, and Niagara Falls, on Eastern time. You’ll need to be located in New York State for each session. Video lets you keep therapy going around demanding jobs, family schedules, and weather. See how teletherapy works. If you’d prefer to meet in person, we also have offices throughout the US; ask our admin team whether in-person visits are an option with your clinician.

Concerns we help with

Members reach out for anxiety, depression, stress tied to marginalized identities, gender identity questions, relationship difficulties, and a wish to feel more like themselves.

Our New York clinician

Psychological Healing has 40 clinicians, offering in-person sessions in 20 states and video sessions in 44 states. Our New York clinician who is active with Optum and UnitedHealthcare sees members by secure video across the state. When you reach out, our admin team matches you with a clinician whose license, focus, and schedule fit what you need. You can read about everyone on our team.

Choosing the right clinician

Fit matters as much as credentials. Some people want a more structured approach, others a more exploratory one. Describe your goals and our admin team will suggest someone. If the first match isn’t right, you can ask to switch to another New York clinician when one is available.

How coverage checks work with Optum and UHC

Many UHC members don’t realize their therapy benefits run through Optum Behavioral Health. That doesn’t change much for you: we’re in-network with both. Share your member identification (ID) number through our Contact page, and we’ll verify your plan, confirm whether video sessions in New York are covered, and flag anything you should know, such as a referral requirement, before scheduling. We do not accept Medicare or Medicare Advantage plans.

How to reach us

The easiest way to start is our appointment request form. Tell us you’re in New York, share your plan details, and mention any preferences, such as a clinician’s approach or language. We’ll confirm your coverage and help you schedule. Curious about everything we treat? Browse our specialties.

Frequently asked questions

Is your New York clinician affirming for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer clients?

Yes. Our New York clinician welcomes clients of all cultural, social, and gender identities and emphasizes authentic self-expression.

Do I need a referral with UnitedHealthcare?

Most commercial UHC plans don’t require a referral for outpatient therapy, but some do. We’ll check yours.

I’m upstate. Can I see a New York City-based clinician?

Yes. A New York license covers the whole state, and sessions are by video.

My card says UnitedHealthcare. Do I contact Optum or UHC?

You don’t need to contact either first. Send us your member identification (ID) number and we’ll confirm which part of your plan manages mental health benefits.
