For UnitedHealthcare (UHC) and Optum members in Hawaii, finding an in-network psychologist who is actually licensed in the state can be harder than it should be. Psychological Healing’s Hawaii clinician is licensed here and offers secure video therapy across the islands.
Read on for what we treat in Hawaii, how we match you with a clinician, and how we check your Optum or UnitedHealthcare benefits.
Island-wide telehealth on Hawaii time
Sessions are scheduled in Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time, which stays the same all year because the state doesn’t observe daylight saving time. Members can meet from Pearl City, Mililani, Kaneohe, Kahului, Kihei, Kapaa, Waimea, or Pahoa. You’ll need to be located in Hawaii during each session. Mental health specialists in Hawaii are concentrated on Oahu, so people on Maui, Hawaii Island, Kauai, Molokai, and Lanai often face long waitlists or interisland travel. Video can make regular therapy possible without flights or long drives. See how teletherapy works. If you’d prefer to meet in person, we also have offices throughout the US; ask our admin team whether in-person visits are an option with your clinician.
Concerns we help with
Hawaii members see us for anxiety, depression, trauma, couples concerns (with select clinicians), and stress tied to work, family, and caregiving. Treatment is evidence-based and shaped by your values, culture, and identities.
Our Hawaii clinician
Psychological Healing has 40 clinicians, offering in-person sessions in 20 states and video sessions in 44 states. Our Hawaii clinician who is active with Optum and UnitedHealthcare sees members by secure video across the state. When you reach out, our admin team matches you with a clinician whose license, focus, and schedule fit what you need. You can read about everyone on our team.
How does online therapy compare with in-person care?
For many people with common concerns, including anxiety, depression, and trauma, research suggests video therapy is broadly comparable to in-person care. A good fit with your clinician and regular attendance matter a great deal. For Hawaii members, video also removes the travel that often makes people miss sessions. What to send us for a benefits check
Share your full name, date of birth, and the member identification (ID) number from your UnitedHealthcare or Optum card. If you’re covered through a spouse’s or parent’s plan, include the subscriber’s name. The front of your card may say UnitedHealthcare while the back lists Optum for behavioral health. That’s normal, and we’re in-network with both; read whether UnitedHealthcare and Optum are the same. We’ll confirm that we’re in-network, that video sessions from Hawaii are covered, and whether anything else is needed before your first appointment. We do not accept Medicare or Medicare Advantage plans.
Ready to get started?
Reach out through our appointment request form. Let us know you live in Hawaii, share your insurance information, and describe briefly what’s bringing you in. You can ask for a specific clinician or let us suggest one. We’ll confirm coverage first, then help you schedule. You can also browse our full team.
Frequently asked questions
I live on a neighbor island. Can I see a psychologist without flying to Honolulu?
Yes. Sessions are by secure video, so you can meet with our Hawaii clinician from Maui, Hawaii Island, Kauai, Molokai, or Lanai. All you need is a private space and a stable internet connection.
Are early-morning Hawaii sessions possible?
Appointment times depend on the clinician’s schedule. Tell our admin team what works for you, and we’ll find the closest fit in Hawaii time.
My card says UnitedHealthcare. Do I contact Optum or UHC?
You don’t need to contact either first. Send us your member identification (ID) number and we’ll confirm which part of your plan manages mental health benefits.
Do you see older teens in Hawaii?
Our Hawaii clinician works with older adolescents as well as adults. We’ll confirm fit and coverage when you contact us.
What happens if I change jobs and get a new UHC plan?
Let us know before your next session. We’ll verify the new plan so your care continues without surprises.
