UnitedHealthcare (UHC) and Optum members across Virginia can work with an in-network psychologist without fighting Beltway traffic or driving across the Blue Ridge. Our Virginia-licensed clinician uses practical Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), with clear goals and measured progress.

Read on for what we treat in Virginia, how we match you with a clinician, and how we check your Optum or UnitedHealthcare benefits.

Secure video from the Shenandoah Valley to the coast

Members meet from Reston, Manassas, Fredericksburg, Williamsburg, Newport News, Hampton, Suffolk, Danville, Blacksburg, Staunton, and Winchester, on Eastern time. You’ll need to be in Virginia during each session. Video sessions work well for military families, federal workers with long commutes, and people in rural counties. See how teletherapy works. If you’d prefer to meet in person, we also have offices throughout the US; ask our admin team whether in-person visits are an option with your clinician.

Concerns we help with

Virginia members reach out for trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, panic, depression, substance use, and stress in demanding jobs, including first responder work.

Our Virginia clinician

Psychological Healing has 40 clinicians, offering in-person sessions in 20 states and video sessions in 44 states. Our Virginia clinician who is active with Optum and UnitedHealthcare sees members by secure video across the state. When you reach out, our admin team matches you with a clinician whose license, focus, and schedule fit what you need. You can read about everyone on our team.

Choosing the right clinician

Fit matters as much as credentials. Some people want a more structured approach, others a more exploratory one. Describe your goals and our admin team will suggest someone. If the first match isn’t right, you can ask to switch to another Virginia clinician when one is available.

UnitedHealthcare card, Optum benefits: how to check

On many UnitedHealthcare plans, Optum manages the mental health side of your benefits. Your card may say UnitedHealthcare while your therapy claims go to Optum, and that’s normal. Look on the back of the card for a behavioral health or mental health line. Or skip the phone tree: send your member identification (ID) number through our Contact page and our admin team will verify your outpatient benefits for telehealth in Virginia. We do not accept Medicare or Medicare Advantage plans.

Ready to get started?

Reach out through our appointment request form. Let us know you live in Virginia, share your insurance information, and describe briefly what’s bringing you in. You can ask for a specific clinician or let us suggest one. We’ll confirm coverage first, then help you schedule. You can also browse our full team.
