ABOUT DR. Michael Namekata, PH.D.
Dr. Michael Namekata is a licensed clinical psychologist working in the San Fernando Valley. He values listening with care and empathy to set collaborative goals with his clients. His professional and educational experiences have developed his deep understanding and compassion for the effect current stressors and past experiences have on mental health. He utilizes this knowledge to effectively implement evidence-based treatments that increase self-awareness and provide skills and tools to address the unique challenges facing his clients.
Dr. Namekata is passionate towards helping his clients achieve their goals and believes the foundation of psychological growth is built upon a strong therapeutic relationship. He is also mindful of societal and cultural factors and adapts his treatments appropriately.
Dr. Namekata believes therapy success is defined by his clients’ achievement of their goals. While unique to each client, this regularly includes an improved quality of life, significant symptom reduction, and mastery of therapeutic skills and tools to effectively manage future challenges. For his own self-care, Dr. Namekata regularly exercises and enjoys watching collegiate basketball with his family.
BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
Dr. Namekata received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of California, Davis. He received both his Master of Arts and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Kansas. Dr. Namekata completed his clinical internship and post-doctoral training at the Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center in Long Beach, California.
Dr. Namekata’s specializations include anxiety, depression, stress management, self-esteem, life transitions, grief, trauma, and couples therapy. Dr. Namekata has expertise working with adults and couples from diverse backgrounds and identities.
Dr. Namekata is licensed by the Board of Psychology in the state of California and his license number is PSY33698.
