ABOUT DR. JASMINE (JAS) TILGHMAN, PH.D.
Dr. Jas is a Licensed Psychologist and Author based out of Los Angeles, CA with many years of experience and expertise. Dr. Jas has treated adolescents, college students, and adults from various intersecting backgrounds and cultural experiences. She specializes in treating anxiety, depression, conflict in family and romantic relationships, race-related stress, adjustment, growth mindset, optimal performance, mindfulness, and values. She also specializes in working with creative and athletic performers, business owners, large companies, and organizations. She approaches therapy with clients utilizing evidenced-based practices that she tailors to best meet each client’s individualized needs.
In addition to her role at Psychological Healing, Dr. Jas is currently the Assistant Director of Mental Health, Training, Intervention & Response for Residential Life at University of California Los Angeles. She is also a Certified Yoga Instructor (RYT-200) and truly believes in the holistic approach to wellness with mind/body connection. Further, Dr. Jas is the author of “Entertainers Managing Stress Through EnterTraining,” with EnterTraining being a term she coined to mean self-soothing.
For her own self-care, Dr. Jas loves listening to music with bass, singing, and songwriting. She also loves the sun, breeze, outdoor activities, traveling, binge-watching shows, shopping on clearance, and hot yoga!
BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
Dr. Jas has been a Licensed Counseling Psychologist in California since 2016. Dr. Jas earned her B.A., M.Ed., and Ph.D. degrees from University of Missouri-Columbia’s Counseling Psychology program. Through her training, Dr. Jas specialized in applying evidence-based treatment through a strong framework of multiculturalism. Dr. Jas completed her pre-doctoral internship at Colorado State University, and her post-doctoral residency at the University of California, San Diego Counseling and Psychological Services center. Dr. Jas then began a position at the University of California, Irvine Counseling Center before transitioning to the University of California, Los Angeles as Assistant Director of Mental Health for Residential Life.
Her core goal is to help clients be true to themselves and reveal how they may be performative in other aspects of their life. As a self-identified Black female, she brings a unique, transparent, and relatable experience to build a trusting therapeutic relationship. She considers therapy a success when clients observe and vocalize changes in their symptoms and quality of life. She strives to identify clients’ successes throughout treatment particularly when they may not see them on their own.
